Vocations

Discernment Dash

Sunday, October 7, 2018
11:00AM to 4:00PM
Starting at Assumption Seminary

Come help the Archdiocesan Vocation Office build the culture of vocations!

This year the Synod of Bishops will convene in October to discuss the very important reality of Young People, the Faith, and Vocational Discernment. Here in the Archdiocese of San Antonio, we are celebrating the opening of this Synod with a 5K Walk and Run called the Discernment Dash! We will gather to pray and celebrate the life God has given us in the Church. We invite young adults, youth, families, parish groups, and other faith organizations to gather with us to pray for and raise awareness of vocations to serve God's Church. We certainly welcome everyone who has ever felt called to serve as a priest, religious sister, or brother. But the Culture of Vocations is built by the whole Church, and all are invited to share this blessed day of prayer and pilgrimage.

We will have a group of competitive runners offering to God their run as an intercession for all in discernment, and we will have a group walking together in prayer - we call them our contemplatives. They will join Archbishop Gustavo and priests, religious, and consecrated persons from throughout the Archdiocese in a prayerful procession along the 5K course. We will start with Mass with Archbishop at Assumption Seminary and then make our way to Our Lady of the Lake University.

Join us and support the life and future of the Archdiocese through strengthening the vibrant Vocation Culture in South Texas.

Join us after the race for an awards ceremony and remarks from Archbishop Gustavo.

We encourage all participants to show their spirit! Parishes and groups are encouraged to wear a shirt, uniform, or accessory, or to bring a banner or sign to represent their community. We will be giving prizes for the fastest competitive runners, and prizes to the various groups participating in the walk - so get creative!
