DEAF MINISTRY
Deaf ministry provides pastoral ministry to and advocates for Deaf individuals in the Archdiocese by making accessible all aspects of the Catholic Faith. Through accessibility and providing the necessary resources, the ministry encourages deaf individuals to participate fully in the sacraments and all aspects of parish and diocesan life.

Announcing a Home Parish to the Deaf Community!
Effective September 25, 2022, the Archdiocese of San Antonio designates Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church the home parish to the Deaf Community!
After careful discernment and dialogue, this designation acknowledges the impact of the Deaf Community to the body of Christ and recognizes the need for a consistent location to gather and actively experience the richness of the Catholic Faith.

ASL Synod on Synodality
Moved by a desire to draw closer to the Lord, the Catholic faithful in the Archdiocese of San Antonio have responded to the call to participate in the synodal process.
The process began through a special iteration of the Archdiocesan Assembly shortly thereafter on November 6, 2022 and additional listening and interactive sessions with the People of God. Over time, it has become clear that the offering was pleasing to the Lord, who in turn, apparently blessed the gifts, broke them open and distributed them among the people.

Sacraments
Deaf Ministry provides support to parishes by providing formation in sign language in order to provide persons with a hearing loss full access to the Faith. To arrange sacramental needs for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing parishioners, contact the Deaf Ministry Director.

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) classes with interpreter have begun at St. Padre Pio parish from 8:30-10:00 AM, but it’s not too late to join! For more information, email Angela.
