ABOUT OUR SPEAKERS

Fr. David McCallum, SJ

REV. DAVID C. MCCALLUM, S.J., ED.D. | EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, PROGRAM FOR DISCERNING LEADERSHIP

David McCallum, S.J., Ed.D. is a Jesuit priest and leadership educator. He serves as the founding Executive Director of the Program for Discerning Leadership, a special project of the General Curia of the Society of Jesus, Georgetown and the Gregorian University. The Program provides leadership formation for senior Vatican officials and major superiors of religious orders in Rome, Italy, as well as internationally.

Born in Buffalo, NY (1968), and raised in Rochester, Fr. McCallum is a proud Upstate New Yorker. From 2009 to 2021 he served in a number of administrative roles at his alma mater, Le Moyne College (Syracuse), including interim Dean of the Madden School of Business, Vice President of Advancement, and five years as the Vice President of Mission Integration and Development.

Fr. McCallumā€™s education includes a bachelorā€™s degree in English, Integral Honors, from Le Moyne College, a Masters degree in philosophical resources from Fordham University, a MDiv and a Licentiate degree in Theology from the Weston Jesuit School of Theology (now the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry), and a doctoral degree in the field of learning and leadership from Columbia University, Teachers College. His research interests include adult learning and development, group dynamics, leadership and organizational development, mission integration, and spiritual maturation.

He serves as a facilitator for mission driven, personal and organizational development programs, provides developmentally informed executive coaching, and delivers leadership development programs and spiritual retreats internationally. He co-founded the Contemplative Leaders in Action program (CLA), an initiative of the Office for Ignatian Spirituality (USA East Coast Province), as well as the Global Jesuit Case Series, and the Mission Integration Institute at the University of San Diego.

Currently, Fr. McCallum serves as a member of the Secretariat for the Synod of Bishops Commission on Methodology, supporting the Synodal process initiative by Pope Francis, and as adjunct faculty in the Institute for Anthropology, Interdisciplinary Studies of Human Dignity and Care at the Pontifical Gregorian University.  www.discerningleadership.com


Professor Rafael Luciani

PROF. RAFAEL LUCIANI | SENIOR ADVISOR, CELAM (LATIN AMERICAN BISHOP’S COUNCIL

Rafael Luciani is a Senior Adviser to CELAM (Latin American Bishop`s Council), and member of the Theological Team of Advisors to the Office of the President of CLAR (Latin American Religious Women and Men Confederation). He coordinates the Ibero-American Theology Group and is a permanent member of the Peter and Paul Seminar, both groups working in the Reform of the Church.

Rafael Luciani holds degrees of Doctor in Theology and Licenciate in Dogmatic Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome; Baccalaureatum in Philosophy and Baccalaureatum in Theology from the Pontifical Salesian University of Rome; and Licenciate in Education (with mention in Philosophy) earned from the Jesuit`s Catholic University AndrĆ©s Bello in Caracas. He has been engaged for several years in postdoctoral research activities at the Julius-Maximilians UniversitƤt in WĆ¼rzburg, Germany; and Visiting Fellow Professor at Boston College. He has been Director of the School of Theology and Coordinator for the creation of the Theology Area of the General Graduate Studies (for Lay Scholars) at the Catholic University AndrĆ©s Bello. Among his teachings, he is in charge of the courses on Biblical and Dogmatic Christology with several published works in the field. He also teaches Origins of Christianity and Mystery of God and several Topics on the relation between Faith and Politics. His articles, newspaper columns and interviews on political theology in the international media (El Universal, Aleteia and Radio Vaticana) are broadly followed by the public. Currently, he has been a Profesor Titular (Full Professor) at the Jesuit`s Catholic University AndrĆ©s Bello in Caracas and Stabile at the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome. Currently, he is Professor Extraordinarius at the Ecclesiastical Faculty of Boston College (School of Theology and Ministry).

Currently, Prof. Luciani serves as a member of the Secretariat for the Synod of Bishops Commission on Theology, supporting the Synodal process initiative by Pope Francis.
