‘We need God and we need each other’

“Stronger Through Prayer,” a National Day of Prayer event held May 6 at Trinity Baptist Church, asked two questions about this unique time: How have you prayed? Why have you prayed? By answering these two queries prayer lives come into focus.

Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller, MSpS, was one of the presenters at the gathering, which was sponsored by Trinity Baptist, the YMCA, and Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio.

Others taking part in the service included San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg; Pastor Les Hollon, senior pastor at Trinity Baptist; Rabbi Steve Gutow, visiting scholar at The Wagner School of New York University who was instrumental in the development of the Interfaith San Antonio Alliance (ISSA); Nancy Abbott, chaplain of the YCMA of Greater San Antonio; Laurie Branch and Veronica Grant, co-coordinators for the Trinity Baptist Prayer Ministry; Bob Oliver, chief volunteer officer for the YMCA; and Eric Cooper, president and CEO of the San Antonio Food Bank. Music was performed by Jacob Sensenig, minister of Music and Worship Arts at Trinity.
