To graduates, we need evangelists more than ever

To all who are to be graduating at this time, moving on to the next stages of your life, I know there is no way you envisioned what would be happening now. You expected to be gathering with excited classmates, listening to speeches from school officials and invited guests, and walking the stage to receive your diploma in front of parents, family, and friends.

We know we are experiencing difficult days, but my message for you is one of hope; to have trust and faith in God. The Lord, in his goodness and love, has blessed you all in so many ways. Be open to His will and His grace, and His plan for your life.

Nurture a deep and personal relationship with Jesus Christ. During this pandemic, we need you more than ever to sanctify the world. Don’t turn inward, go forth, and share your gifts and knowledge to help heal our suffering world. We need evangelists more than ever, in families, in work places, and in the greater public realm.

God’s kingdom is not only above and outside of the world. We are deeply connected to Christ, who calls us to fight injustice and to respect the dignity of every person.

Hold faithful to the Gospel, and allow the mystery of the Holy Spirit to transform not only our lives, but all around us and the entire world. As Pope Francis has said, “The Holy Spirit will go before you and prepare the way for you.”

Congratulations on this tremendous achievement of graduation, and I pray for all of you.
