Statement of Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller, MSpS, concerning New York City attack of Oct. 31

Yet another senseless attack on the innocent took place in New York City yesterday, with the site of this carnage taking place close to the location of the World Trade Center tragedy. Eight people needlessly lost their lives and many others were injured while they were peacefully walking or bicycling on a popular path that is customarily filled with the sounds of laughter and friendly conversation.
It is almost too much to number or keep track of these kinds of deaths, which seem to take place every few days in our world, our country, and our cities. This must end!
As Pope Paul VI said in his Fifth World Day for Peace message in 1972, this clarion call still resonates clearly 45 years later: “If you want peace, work for justice.” This we must do, and we shall do it. Pray, pray, pray, and let us undertake this most vital and necessary work with renewed fervor and zeal.
