Statement by Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller, MSpS, concerning the death of Tom Benson

I offer my condolences and prayers to Mrs. Gayle Benson and the entire Benson family concerning the death of Tom Benson. He was a man of faith and for many decades a generous civic benefactor in San Antonio as well as to many Catholic entities; especially the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, Oblate School of Theology, the University of the Incarnate Word, St. Anthony Catholic School, and Central Catholic High School. His family continues that legacy in this archdiocese. Six years ago, he and Gayle were awarded by Pope Benedict XVI the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice, the highest award given to a layperson, for their tremendous work in Catholic endeavors in their hometown of New Orleans. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him.
