State convention re-energizes Knights to continue their mission

The Cardinal Medeiros Fellow Award was presented to Auxiliary Bishop Gary W. Janak by the Texas State Council Knights of Columbus at the 117th Annual State Convention in Houston on April 30.

The Cardinal Humberto Medeiros Trust fund was created in 1981 by the Texas Knights of Columbus State Council Charities in his honor to provide educational grants to families of Knights. The interest earned by the account is used to exclusively supply Texas State Council educational grants.

Bishop Janak has been an active Knight for more than 40 years.

Despite severe weather in the Houston area, hundreds of Knights of Columbus attended the first in-person state convention since the COVID-19 pandemic, officials reported.

Cardinal Daniel DiNardo celebrated the opening Mass at the Hilton of the Americas for the Knights, their wives, and sponsors.

Bishop Brendan Cahill of the diocese of Victoria celebrated a Memorial Mass on May 2 for the community. Nearly 24 hours of Eucharistic Adoration were held during the convention as well.

The Knights carried on with State Deputy Alfred Vela’s theme of “Be Not Afraid.” Vela told the Knights in attendance, “We hope this year had been rewarding for each of you as we seek to support each other, our parishes, and our communities. Be not afraid, for our Lord Jesus Christ is always with us.”
