At St. Pius X Catholic School, we believe that every child is a gift from God, with special talents to be nurtured and developed. To further that belief, we are pleased to announce the opening of our new Student Support Services classrooms. With help fromĀ David Weekley Homes, we were able to transform our former library into two new offices that will house our Counseling and Learning Lab to support our students.
Our Student Support Services exist to empower our students in becoming successful academically, emotionally, and socially. We will teach our future leaders study and organizational skills, social skills, and facilitate student/teacher/parent communications. Our goal is to give our students the skills to become successful in and out of the classroom.
Carmen C. Lewenthal, M.A. and Marilyn Scamardo, M.Ed. staff our counseling and guidance programs. Carmen Lewenthal will remain the lead counselor, and we welcome back Stephanie Moreno as our intern from Texas A&M San Antonioās graduate counseling program.
Mrs. Lewenthal is a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, a National Board Certified Counselor, a Certified Child Psychotherapist and a Registered Play Therapist. Ms. Scamardo has her counseling certificate from TEA. She has a specialization in music therapy and will incorporate our newly written virtue program into her guidance lessons for all students.
In addition to individual and family needs, Mrs. Lewenthal and Ms. Scamardo team up to teach our Guidance Curriculum that build up life skills, concepts and abilities in self-knowledge, and interpersonal relationships. The character education and service projects included in our virtue program help us to form strong Catholic leaders for our communities.
Our Learning Lab will work collaboratively with our classroom teachers and staff in and out of the classroom by assisting our students with additional academic support. We are excited about this new academic year at St. Pius X Catholic School.
