St. Matthew’s back to school plans for the upcoming year

In 1993, St. Matthew Catholic School opened its doors to welcome the first class of Cardinal students. We are a Pre-k through eighth grade school located near USAA and the Medical Center.

We are excited to welcome our students back to St. Matthew for the 2020-2021 school year. Due to COVID-19, our families will get to choose between two options: a high-quality education with in-person instruction or receive this education via distance learning.

Students who choose in-person instruction will follow all safety protocols and procedures as recommended by local health officials. This will include temperature checks and wearing masks when moving about the campus. Desks will be placed six feet apart in order to allow for proper social distancing. In addition, students will be asked to frequently wash their hands or sanitize them at one of the hand sanitizing stations around the school to ensure the safety of all students, faculty, and staff.

For distance learning, teachers will utilize grade level websites, implement Google Classroom, and Google meets will be conducted in place of Zoom meetings. Core classes and electives/specials will be recorded or live streamed. Students in third through eighth grade will be issued an iPad.

St. Matthew will continue to plan and make adjustments based on information from our Safety Task Force, the Archdiocese of San Antonio, and recommendations and guidelines from our government and city officials.
