SAPLF’s Literacy Caravan hits the road to donate 1,000 books

San Antonio Public Library Foundation presents donation to St. John Berchmans

The San Antonio Public Library Foundation took their Literacy Caravan on the road November 5 to make a special donation of 1,000 children’s books to St. John Berchmans School Library, along with a donation of $500 for use in the library.

“St. John Berchmans Catholic School has a very active children’s Folklorico dance troupe. We were thrilled to present these talented children to our guests at the Fifth Annual Catrina Ball, held on October 23at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center,” said Amy Hone, executive director of the San Antonio Public Library Foundation. “In appreciation for the St. John Berchmans School, Folklorico dancers, and Principal Nora Garcia, we are donating 1,000 children’s books to the school, along with a cash donation, to help improve their Library” she continued, “they were a highlight of the Catrina Ball!”

The San Antonio Public Library Foundation’s Literacy Caravan is a mobile classroom initiative created in 2008 to foster the love of reading and promote literacy and success for San Antonio’s children, focusing on pre-K through third grade. In a typical year, the Literacy Caravan visits 70 schools, city events, and festivals, leading literacy activities for children and their parents. Each child leaves the Literacy Caravan with a free book.

With this donation to St. John Berchmans Catholic School, SAPLF expects each child at the school to receive a free book, as well as bolster their library.
