Providence Catholic School Alumnae Association announces eight new scholarships

The Providence Alumnae Association (PAA) has announced eight new scholarship opportunities for current students at Providence Catholic School. Its membership and alumnae outreach has engaged with seven decades of alumnae through fundraisers, networking events, and now virtual meet-ups.

“The goal of the Providence Alumnae Association is to promote Providence Catholic School and its ideals of Faith, Justice, Integrity, and Excellence, as well as support students through financial aid and scholarships,” said Jasmin Hernandez ‘07, PAA president. She added that council members, members, and alumnae who are not yet members have all expressed a desire to support their alma mater in a number of ways. “In planning and strategic discussions with the school administration, there was a strong need for additional tuition assistance opportunities for returning families.”

Led by Sara Briseño Gerrish ‘99, fundraising efforts continue as $4,000 is already secured in the Scholarship Fund. “Membership dues each month go directly towards the scholarship fund. We were also tasked with one fundraiser, our Galentine’s Day event, with a goal of $1,000. We were able to raise over $2,500 from that event. We are very proud of our efforts during this inaugural year!”

The Scholarship program, led by Erica Sosa, Ph.D ‘99, consists of five awards for the 2020-2021 school year — Legacy, Continuation, Service, Leadership, and Resilience. “Our scholarships were designed to increase retention among our determined students. It’s important to keep these young women in our school system; these hardships can include anything from financial issues to any other barriers they may face. We know the top students have and will always have opportunities for scholarships, but there are many other girls who may find a harder time to get a scholarship.” The PAA has also developed business and philanthropist sponsored scholarship opportunities, where donors can design their own gift and scholarship program.

During a virtual meet-up on April 1st, the PAA also announced a COVID-19 Relief Fund for current students, dubbed the “Crown Scholarship.” In partnership with the school’s existing giving platform, the PAA is working to connect alumnae and other ‘Friends of Providence’ to provide emergency relief to those families impacted by the COVID-19 health and economic crisis. The school will disburse funds to impacted families immediately. To contribute to the Crown Scholarship, text ALUMNAEGIVE to 41444 or visit igfn.us/form/YNK6HA .
