Praying for all San Antonio seminarians

The archdiocese welcomed four new seminarians at a Mass of Sending Forth celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop Gary Janak at San Fernando Cathedral on August 22.

Javier Alvarado, Nicolás Benítez, José Edgar Hernández, and Man Nguyen each received a blessing from Bishop Janak as they began this chapter of their lives, and the four also pledged, in front of all witnesses present, their dedication to the discernment and formation process they will undergo to one day enter the San Antonio presbyterate.

In comments at the liturgy, Bishop Janak said there is a great need of priests to serve the faithful. While there are about 20 men in formation for the archdiocese in seminary studies, the bishop said that number needed to be between 40 to 50. “Please pray for those who discern, that they may have the courage to answer the call,” he said. “Let us also play an active role in encouraging and cultivating vocations in our local community and in our families.”
