Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS, statement concerning the appointment of Bishop-elect Robert Coerver to the Diocese of Lubbock
I offer my congratulations to Bishop-elect Robert Coerver on his appointment by the Holy Father Pope Francis to serve as bishop of the Diocese of Lubbock.
Bishop-elect Coerver, who was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Dallas, has served the Church there in a large number of pastoral and administrative positions, bringing great leadership and skill to all of his assignments. Most recently he ministered as pastor of St. Rita Parish. In addition, he has served as a vicar forane, member of the College of Consultors, and Presbyteral Council member. I know the diocese will miss him deeply.
I offer my prayers as well for Bishop-elect Coerver as he undertakes his episcopal ministry. He will bring new gifts in working to build up the Lord’s Church, and I look forward to collaborating with him and warmly welcome him as he joins the Province of San Antonio.
We congratulate, as well, the Catholics and all the citizens of the Diocese of Lubbock as they prepare to greet a shepherd who will love them and guide them in the name of Christ. As he moves forward, we all will come to know more about his pastoral vision.
Bishop Plácido Rodríguez, CMF, served the diocese for more than two decades with great love, commitment, and dedication. We are truly grateful for the gifts he brought to the Church on the South Plains and for his steady leadership. The people there were very fortunate to have such an insightful and caring person to serve as their shepherd. He can be assured of our continued prayers.
