Gala supports families in need of tuition assistance for Catholic schools

The Hope for the Future Khaki and Plaid Gala on May 1 raised more than $400,000 for families which need financial assistance in order to make their dreams of Catholic education come true.

The hybrid event, with many portions of the program pre-recorded but some in-person elements as well, was aired live from the archdiocesan Pastoral Center by Catholic Television of San Antonio. Bill Taylor of KENS-5 TV served as emcee for the evening, and the St. Anthony High School Mariachi Band was on hand to provide festive music for the occasion.

Videos were shown featuring interviews with Dr. Alma Garza, DDC, Hope for the Future Board chair; Marti West, superintendent of Catholic Schools; Michael Fierro, principal of Blessed Sacrament School; Dr. Jennifer Grenardo, principal of St. James the Apostle School; Auxiliary Bishop Gary Janak, David Kauffman; the Viagran family; Nicolas Gonzalez, actor in “The Good Doctor” and graduate of Central Catholic High School; Catholic school supporter Tina West-Yanez; and a song from the Holy Name School Choir.

Taylor expressed his gratitude to sponsors Tina Kahlig and Mike Ciskowski for their support of the event, Auxiliary Bishop Michael Boulette prayed the opening prayer; and auction items raised additional dollars for the fundraiser.
