Children’s Hospital of San Antonio hosts investiture ceremony for Endowed Chair in Pediatric Neurology

Appointment given to Dr. Yu-Tze Ng, chief of pediatric neurology

The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio Foundation and the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio celebrated the appointment of an endowed chair, named for SWBC Founders Charlie Amato and Gary Dudley, with an investiture ceremony.

The Gary Dudley and Charlie Amato Endowed Chair in Pediatric Neurology was awarded to Dr. Yu-Tze Ng, who serves as the section chief of the pediatric neurology division at the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio and professor of pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine.

Dr. Ng joined the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio in August. Prior to joining the Children’s Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine, Dr. Ng served as the director of epilepsy and chief of child neurology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. He also held the Presbyterian Health Foundation Chair of Child Neurology. Dr. Ng earned his medical degree from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. His professional training continued as he completed fellowships in epilepsy and pediatric neurology at University of Texas Medical School at Houston. Dr. Ng is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians/Pediatricians and is board certified in neurology with special qualification in child neurology and has additional board certifications in clinical neurophysiology and epilepsy. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed original scientific journal articles, editorials and book chapters and is an associate editor for the journal Pediatric Neurology.

The SWBC Foundation donated a $2 million gift for the creation and appointment of an endowed chair, named for Gary Dudley and Charlie Amato, co-founders of SWBC. SWBC’s President, Gary Dudley and Chairman, Charlie Amato, formed SWBC with $1500 of starting capital. Today, SWBC is an international diversified financial services company providing a wide range of insurance, mortgage and investment services to businesses, families and financial institutions. With offices across the country, the company has more than 2,000 employees. And, throughout the company’s history, there has always been a focus on providing outstanding customer service and running the business with integrity. Both Amato and Dudley admit that even though SWBC is a privately held company, they run it like it is publicly traded.

Endowed chairs recognize and foster excellence among medical professionals who are leaders in their field. Clinical, research, and educational opportunities for the recipient and the department they represent are supported through the earnings of a permanent fund. The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio has six endowed chairs.
