Recently, the Court of Our Lady of the Holy Trinity, Catholic Daughters of the Americas (CDA) and Hope for the Future presented two $2,000 scholarships to Catholic The scholarship winners were selected from a pool of 48 entries. Interested students had to apply through Hope for the Future, and were judged on multiple criteria including financial need, letters of recommendation, grades, service hours, and each student had to write an essay with the theme of the Gospel of Matthew Chapter 5, “You are the light of the world…Your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.”school 8th grade students. The scholarships will be applied to the students’ Catholic High School tuition for the 2015-16 school year. The two winners included Laramie Arquart, St. Gregory the Great Catholic School

and Franco Querido, St. Mary Magdalen Catholic School. CDA Regent Lina Ramirez, Recording Secretary Olga Muller-Gonzalez and members of the Hope for the Future CDA Scholarship Committee, Cynthia Gdula and Membership Chairperson Laura Hansbrough along with Annette Etnyre visited the two schools to formally award the scholarships.

Franco’s essay provided thoughtful examples of how he was a light to others and how he hoped to continue to be a light in high school. Laramie impressed the selection committee with her goal of creating a tutoring program for underprivileged children, and by using the Gospel message from Mark 9:37 as inspiration: “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.”

Both students provided letters of recommendations that illustrated each students’ exemplary service to others and their outstanding academic performance.

“Having the Court of Our Lady of the Holy Trinity Catholic Daughters of the Americas as a partner to help out students in need has been tremendous,” said Julie Seguin, Director of Hope for the Future. “I applaud the CDA for supporting Catholic school education and giving financial relief to dedicated students and families.”

Congratulations to both students for their hard work and for continuing their Catholic school education.
