Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of San Antonio, Inc. hosts Wellness and Community Resource Fair to kick off World Refugee Week

Catholic Charities hosted a Wellness and Community Resource Fair to kick off the start of World Refugee Week on June 11 at St. Matthew Church. The event was free and open to the public, serving individuals of all ages. The purpose of the event was to raise awareness of cultural diversity through health education, free screenings, and many different organizations coming together to serve the community.

The event kicked-off at 9 a.m. with an hour of Zumba and featured a bike rodeo for children, a martial arts expo, a soccer game, healthy refreshments, door prizes, and face painting. A combination of live music and a DJ at the event provided entertainment. Along with the many activities, there were community resources and free health screenings including BMI, blood pressure, cholesterol, dental screenings, and eye exams. Community partners included UIW, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa, Smileland Family Dental, State of Texas Kidney Foundation, and many others. President/CEO of Catholic Charities, J. Antonio Fernández, welcomed guests along with District 8 City Councilman, Ron Nirenberg.
