​St. Stephen’s CARE Center sees rise in need for basic necessities

On the one-month anniversary of St. Stephen’s CARE Center recently, Catholic Charities updated the community about the rising need for basic services. A recent report from the Census Bureau states that San Antonio’s poverty rate increased to 20 percent and the median household income dropped to $49,024.

Catholic Charities announced the grand opening of the St. Stephen’s CARE Center on with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Sept. 9. Catholic Charities’ President/CEO, J. Antonio Fernandez spoke and provided tours of the new facility, Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS, delivered remarks and blessing the building, and Texas Diaper Bank CEO Jorge Medina discussed his organization’s partnership with Catholic Charities. The new site is named for the manner in which it will serve: Compassion, Aid, Respect, and Empowerment.

At Catholic Charities, we serve all people. We don’t care who you are or why you need our help. We simply want to serve those who need us most. Sometimes our client is an at-risk child and sometimes our client is an isolated senior. Regardless, we can’t reach our clients without the help of our community.
