​Catholic Charities reflects on one-year anniversary of St. Stephen’s CARE Center

Catholic Charities opened the St. Stephen’s CARE Center on Sept. 9, 2019 with the intent of providing a client-choice Food Pantry, Clothes Closet, and Diaper Bank for the San Antonio community. At its inception, the site was designed to provide additional capacity for food distribution and serve as a hub for disaster relief. Then the pandemic hit.

St. Luke’s Catholic School student Madison, felt the need to help her brothers and sisters throughout our community. COVID-19 has been an uncertain time for many who have lost their jobs or income. While making pizzas with her family, she was inspired to help others by fundraising for Catholic Charities.

As part of a coalition with the City of San Antonio Department of Human Services, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, and United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County, Catholic Charities is continuing Project Cool, a program that provides free 20-inch box fans to older adults in an effort to prevent heat-related illness and deaths during the hot summer months in San Antonio.
