Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller, MSpS, celebrated an early Christmas with a Mass at the Bexar County Detention Center on Dec. 19. Each year, the archbishop brings the spirit of Christmas to the incarcerated.While there, the men celebrated the archbishop’s 58th birthday, which was Dec. 21. Then the archbishop Catholic Charities President/CEO Jose Antonio Fernandez welcomed a donation from Goya Foods on Dec. 23 to benefit Catholic Charities’ in support of families in needthis holiday season. At the Our Lady of Guadalupe Community Center and Food Panty on the Westside of San Antonio, Goya Foods donated 20,000 pounds of food to Catholic Charities supporting food pantries and emergency food programs throughout the archdiocese. A huge 18-wheeler filled with food arrived from Houston in the brisk early morning and a team of volunteers unloaded this generous and timely gift. Later that day, Archbishop Gustavo visited the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio to offer a special Christmas blessing for the children and families who are in the hospital. The prelate prayed with children, families, associates and physicians who are spending Christmas in the hospital. Among patients he visited in the ICU were 6-month old Axel Luna and his mother Estella Luna and 17-year-old Anahi Robles and her mother Ana Mimm.
