Resources for Parish Leaders

There are a variety of ways for you to make this occasion memorable for the many married couples in your parish. Here are some ideas and resources that can help you celebrate the gift of marriage among your parish members:

Pastor or deacon can bless the married couples during the Sunday liturgy of World Marriage Sunday on February 14, 2020. Couples can stand in their place (those in-person or watching virtually) and receive a special blessing. The priest can utilize the blessing from the Book of Blessings, Order for the Blessing of a Married Couple (Order of the Blessing within Mass on Other Occasions – outside of anniversaries), pages 25-27 from the 1989 version.

Make the At-Home Marriage Retreat available to couples online by announcing the link in the bulletin, website, social media, etc. or by printing copies of the guide and giving them out during World Marriage Sunday. The USCCB has provided this online resource available in English and in Spanish for couples to do daily reflections at home.

A Digital Retreat PDF booklet is available for download in English and in Spanish. Please find general printing instructions here.

Priest or deacon can utilize the  Preaching Resources and Prayers of the Faithful provided by the USCCB for the Sunday liturgy.

Host a special holy hour of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament for engaged and married couples (in-person and/or online) utilizing the topic of marriage. This can be also done for youth and young adult groups on the vocation to married life.
