Formation journey sets foundation for a life of service

The Mexican American Catholic College held its graduation Mass and spring commencement ceremony May 8 at Our Lady’s Chapel at Assumption Seminary, with Father David Garcia, retired director of the Old Spanish Missions serving as presider and homilist.

Following an address from Father Juan Molina, president of MACC, two dozen students were presented their certificates and degrees.

Artemio Aguilar of the Capuchin Franciscans received the Certificate of Pastoral Ministry and Matthew Goodwin from the Conventual Franciscans received the Certificate of Pre-Theology, along with Guillermo Cruz, Luis De La Cruz, and Luis Gomez Bustamente from the Archdiocese of San Antonio.

Father Len Brown, CMF, director of Diaconal Studies, presented Certificate of Pastoral Ministry in Diaconal Studies to 17 men. They were: Martin Alfaro from St. Bonaventure Church, Jesus Almanza from St. Joan of Arc, Jorge Cabello from St. Mark the Evangelist, Paul Cardenas from St. Helena, Juan Carlos Carreno, Sr., from San Juan de los Lagos, Del Eulberg from St. Peter the Apostle in Boerne, Pedro Fernandez from Sacred Heart in Comfort, Kevin LaFrance from St. Pius X, Valentin Lucero from St. Joan of Arc, Salvador Rodriguez Gaeta from St. Ann, Ignacio Romo from St. Joseph Honey Creek, Rudy Sanchez from St. Jerome in Martinez, Ricardo Serdan from Holy Trinity, Alan Shultz from Blessed Sacrament, Antonio Valdez from St. Anthony Mary Claret, Paul John Williams from Our Lady of Guadalupe in Helotes, and Roberto Zapata from Notre Dame in Kerrville. The deacon wives were also thanked for their commitment to the program.

Jose Santiago Perez Ramirez from the Diocese of San Bernardino received his bachelor’s degree in Pastoral Ministry from Alma Alvarado, dean of students; and Sister Guadalupe Ramirez, MCDP, associate professor of Pastoral Theology, presented the master’s degree in Pastoral Ministry to Leticia Gordillo of the Archdiocese of Mobile.
