Institute for Lay Ecclesial Ministry and Service

Institute for Lay Ecclesial Ministry and Service

What a gift it is to receive formation for ministry!

Lay ecclesial ministers, just like the ordained, need and deserve formation of high standards, effective methods, and comprehensive goals. (USCCB, Co-workers in the Vineyard of the Lord)

The Institute for Lay Ecclesial Ministry and Service provides an integral well-rounded pastoral formation to the lay faithful who, moved by the Holy Spirit, want to follow Christ through service in the lay pastoral ministry of the Archdiocese of San Antonio and the global Church. The Institute will form lay leaders called to serve in Catechetical Ministry, Liturgical Ministry, Marriage and Family Ministry, Youth Ministry, and Pastoral Care.

The Certification Process and Formation Program of the Archdiocese of San Antonio provides the basic theological understandings, spiritual formation and ministerial methodology necessary for those who are appointed by their pastors to accompany adults, youth or children.
