Family Ministries Training for Parish Leaders

The cancellation of Family Ministries Training for Parish Leaders scheduled for April 25, 2020 is being taken out of a great abundance of caution and concern for all attendees as well as the wider community. The COVID-19 outbreak has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization, and more serious measures are being taken in other parts of the country and in Texas to combat the spread of the virus.

We ask for prayers for all those affected by this virus around the globe, and that the threat of COVID-19 be removed across the world, in our country, state, and locally.

The archdiocese continues to listen to health and civil authorities regarding public safety. We are not likely to control the virus, but rather control the spread of the virus. For information on COVID-19, see https://www.sanantonio.gov/Health/News/Alerts/CoronaVirus

Family Ministries Training for Parish Leaders

Saturday, April 25, 2020

English and Spanish Tracks

8:00 AM-12:00 PM | St. Helena Catholic Church
(14714 Edgemont St., San Antonio, TX 78247 -- Directions)
Free books and resources given to each participant according to the topic.

The families of our communities face many challenges and anxieties in our world today. They long to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ and his church. As a response to this felt need, this training aims to empower parish leaders to accompany families from many walks of life as they seek to encounter God. What methods are effective in accompanying couples seeking the sacrament of marriage? How can the parish assist to promote healthy family dynamics? How do we make Christ’s presence known to those suffering from the loss of a loved one? This introductory training will give practical tools and free resources to start or strengthen parish ministries as they seek to accompany families in the following areas:

Available Tracks

Marriage Preparation and Sponsor Couples

In this session, the participant will explore the marriage preparation program For Better and For Ever. They will receive the tools to start or strengthen marriage preparation at the parish level to include the recruitment and training of sponsor couples that, under the guidance and authority of the Pastor, will walk with those seeking the sacrament of matrimony. A free For Better and For Ever workbook will be given to each participant.

Bereavement Ministry (Grief and Loss Ministry)

Parish leaders will be equipped to start or strengthen a grief support group for people who are mourning the death of a loved one. With tips that are practical and spiritual, this session will help participants accompany those in a grief journey. A free Grieving with Great Hope leader’s guide and workbook will be given to each participant.

Ministry to the Divorced

During this session, ministry leaders will learn the basics on how to facilitate support groups for those who are divorced or separated. The aim is that leaders will be equipped to accompany those who often need to learn to navigate the pain, confusion and anxiety they face after divorce and find their way into the heart of Christ. Participants will receive a free leader’s guide of Surviving Divorce: Hope and Healing for the Catholic Family.
