Catechist Certification

The call to the ministry of the catechist is a vocation, an interior call, the voice of the Holy Spirit. (National Directory for Catechesis)

The Institute for Lay Ecclesial Ministry and Service offers Catechist Certification through fully developed programs for:

Introductory Orientation: Designed primarily to assist in preparing new volunteer parish catechists with no previous formation or experience.

Level 1: Basic Certification: Provides appropriate adult faith formation and catechetical training through theological content, catechetical methods and prayer experiences.

Level 2: Intermediate Formation Certification: Builds upon the foundation established in Level 1 Basic Formation, providing an integration of prayer, theological knowledge and experiences.

Level 3: Advanced Formation Certification: May be gained through a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited Catholic college or university or through additional coursework beyond Level 2. For the Level 3 Classroom Schedule, contact John Miller.

Level 4: Professional Formation Certification: For those having completed Master’s Degrees in theology or related fields from accredited Catholic institutions of higher learning. For the Current Level 4 Classroom Schedule, contact John Miller.
