Greetings in the Lord Jesus! As you know, the archdiocese recently contracted with the Steier Group to examine the feasibility and potential support for an archdiocesan capital campaign. All clergy, religious, and laity had the opportunity to provide input through a personal interview, by attending regional Town Hall gatherings, and completing a survey online or through the mail. I thank you and congratulate you for what we have accomplished together thus far in identifying and addressing critical needs which will move our archdiocese forward in faith.

I also thank you for your participation and support in many ways in this important process; it was vital. Last month, I received the final report of the Steier Groupā€™s findings and recommendations. I in turn shared this information with my senior staff, the Presbyteral Council, and the College of Consultors. The results of the interviews and surveys were extremely positive, with more than 80 percent of respondents indicating their support for a capital campaign.

I have prayerfully discerned that we need to move forward with an archdiocesan-wide capital campaign. We heard your comments loud and clear concerning the preliminary goal for the campaign, and so the amount to be established will be about half that which was initially examined. Your continued feedback is needed and valued as we finalize the timetable, structure, and goals for this effort. Many questions still need to be answered as we work to clarify and finalize our formal case for the campaign. We also need to establish the policies and procedures to be followed during the campaign.

As the people of the archdiocese did decades ago when they undertook the first and only capital campaign in our history, we need to establish a legacy that will make a difference in the lives that follow. It is an exciting time, and I know we will be blessed by an outpouring of generosity.

Please join me in praying that the Holy Spirit will continue to guide our ministry efforts as the archdiocese expands and grows at an exponential pace. With every assurance of prayer and best wishes for all, I remain,
Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Gustavo GarcĆa-Siller, MSpS
Archbishop of San Antonio
