Social Service Ministries

Catholic Charities

Catholic Charities is dedicated to serving the community through selfless service under the sign of love. This ministry is committed to empowering individuals and families through charitable programs:


Adult Education & Re-Employment Program

This new program will work to find community based solutions to poverty. This program provides families the tools needed to become self-sufficient such as a partnership with Region 20 providing English as a Second Language classes followed by the General Educational Development courses. Students include refugees, immigrants and individuals who live on the west side of San Antonio. The Re-Employment arm of the program will build relationships with businesses in the community looking to hire motivated individuals. Caritas Legal Services


Caritas Legal Aid Program

The Caritas Legal Aid Program is a service for low-income individuals needing representation in civil legal matters. Free walk-in legal clinics, called Ask-A-Lawyer, are held several times throughout the year. The Ask-A-Lawyer clinics are hosted by Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of San Antonio, Inc. and St. Mary’s University School of Law.


Catholic Counseling Services

Catholic Counseling Services provides individual, family and couples counseling to persons residing in the Bexar County and the Archdiocese of San Antonio. In addition to counseling services, this program provides case management services to clients seeking to access resources, e.g. Food, rental assistance, legal assistance and employment. This ministry informs and assist clients with individual changes which can be made to their situation so that their lives are not always in crisis. They work with clients seeking to resolve their legal status through the evaluation and assessment of their situation which culminates in a report for the client to present to their attorney. They also offer assistance to domestic violence groups as well as Child Protective Services clients. Catholic Counseling and Healthcare Clinic Catholic Counseling and Healthcare Clinic makes medical and dental services available to clients as well as provides benefits for religious sisters and brothers. A part-time medical doctor and full-time registered nurse is available to patients on a weekly basis.


Financial Wellness & Care Program

The Financial Wellness & Care Program provides bill payer and representative payee services to low-income individuals 55 years and older who lack the ability to effectively manage their own financial affairs. This program is designed to prevent financial abuse, neglect and exploitation of the elderly, the Money Management Program promotes independent living for individuals on a fixed income who have no one else available or appropriate to assist them.


Guadalupe Community Center

Guadalupe Community Center - After School & Summer Youth Program The After School & Summer Youth Program provides no-cost services to families in the surrounding community, including free transportation from school to Guadalupe Community Center. The program offers services to youth in grades K-12 which include a safe place, enriching activities, homework/tutoring assistance, arts and crafts, community gardening and nutrition skills, and positive peer and adult relationships. This is a year round program offering all day programming during school holidays and summer, allowing parents/guardians to continue working knowing their children are in a safe, positive and enriching place.


Guadalupe Community Center - Clothing Closet The Clothes Closet & Food Pantry offers emergency food and clothing assistance to individuals and families suffering economic hardship. Food and clothing are distributed at no cost and based on the family’s size and need. In addition, this ministry program supports individuals looking for clothing for an interview, a warm coat for individuals or a child, or food to get through the next week before the next paycheck is received. Catholic Charities is there to help serve and provide assistance when it is in most need.


Guadalupe Home

Guadalupe Home is a transitional living program for homeless expectant mothers and homeless mothers with infants. During their stay at Guadalupe Home, mothers have a safe place to live and to prepare for birth, as well as have a home-like environment in which to nurture their baby. Women who come to Guadalupe Home are ready to improve their lives and the lives of their children.


Parish Support Line

The Parish Support Line is a service and resource to parishes and pastors to help the individuals and families that turn to them in desperation.


Pregnancy Center

The Pregnancy Center is dedicated to saving babies by providing supportive and educational services to women facing unplanned pregnancies. The program will offer counseling prenatal education, childbirth preparation classes, labor and birth support, nurse home visits, parenting education, case management, food and utility assistance, community referrals, housing assistance and basic needs support. A full-time staff member coordinates services for women and outreach to the parishes and community, as well as serve as point of contact for collaboration among the area’s service providers to crisis pregnancy clients.


Criminal Justice Ministry

The Office of Criminal Justice Ministry (CJM) for the Archdiocese of San Antoio recruits, screens, and trains volunteers from parishes throughout the archdiocese to minister to the incarcerated and those formerly incarcerated and their families. In order to serve this special population, the ministry works directly with our parishes and offers formation and on-going education to help people understand the needs of those being served. As Catholics, we are called to social ministry and must act with justice, tenderly love, serve one another, and walk humbly with God.


Chrysalis Ministry (Formerly: Bexar County Detention Ministry)

Chrysalis Ministries (formerly Bexar County Detention Ministries) is an interfaith agency, with a small group of local pastors who provided worship and religious services, support groups and pastoral counseling at the County Jail.


Hospital  Ministry, Pastoral Care -                            

The Catholic hospital chaplains minister to the pastoral needs of those hospitalized through regular visitations on the floors, emergency calls, and on-going training of volunteer Eucharistic ministers.

                                                                                                                                 

Seton Home

Seton Home provides a nurturing home environment for pregnant or parenting teens who are homeless and have chosen to keep their children. Funding will support Seton Home’s Spirituality Program that provides a broad range of basic care, religious, educational and mentoring services to meet the needs of young mothers.


St. Peter-St. Joseph Children's Home
