UIW Cardinals for Kids presents check to Children’s Hospital of San Antonio Foundation

The University of the Incarnate Word’s (UIW) Cardinals for Kids (CFK) student organization presented a check for over $35,000 Jan. 9, to Elias Neujahr, president of the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio (CHOSA) and John Bel, president of the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio Foundation.

The money was raised at several events CFK holds throughout the year including a Dance Marathon, Dodge Ball tournament as well as the first annual CFK Winter’s Eve Gala held Nov. 20 in UIW’s McCombs Center Rosenberg Sky Room. Over 150 people enjoyed an evening of fellowship while honoring the first recipient of the 2014 CFK Humanitarian of the year award, Sr. Walter Maher, CCVI, Vice President for Mission & Ministry at UIW.  Children’s Hospital of San Antonio President Elias Neujahr thanked the organization for their efforts on behalf of the foundation. Miracle Kid McKenzie Villanuva also attended the event. Her parents thanked everyone for their support not only for their daughter but for all the children in need of the services provided by the hospital.

“The donation represented a years’ worth of hard work and dedication by CFK for all for the kids at CHOSA. It was a great feeling to give such a large donation to the hospital,” said UIW student, William Bailey, director of UIW Cardinals for Kids.

Cardinals for Kids is a UIW Mission & Ministry student organization dedicated to raising awareness and funds to serve the families of the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio, a member of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals® raise funds for 170 children’s hospitals across North America. These donations support research and training, purchase equipment, and pay for uncompensated care.
