Mount Sacred Heart Catholic School Montessori Program celebrates 41 years

LastĀ August, when students and families entered the doors of Mount Sacred Heart School, they were welcomed with open arms from the faculty and staff who are proud to serve in the Montessori Program which celebrates its 41st year at Mount Sacred Heart School (MSH).

The Montessori Program at MSH — designed for the 2-and-a-half to 5-year-old child ā€“ was established in 1973 and provides purposeful activities for all aspects of each childā€™s development.

ā€œWe feel exceptionally blessed to have had our son, Joseph, attend the MSH Montessori Program for four years. We firmly believe the program, its design, and its overall philosophy about learning and life has been instrumental in our sonā€™s academic and spiritual growth. The programā€™s emphasis on global awareness and service are values that our son has and will carry with him for the rest of his life,ā€ states Peter Zamora, a 1974 and 1975 Montessori student and a 1985 graduate of MSH School.

The MSH Montessori Program includes four multi-age classrooms for ages ranging from 2-and-a-half to 5 years. The five basic areas of curriculum in the Montessori classroom consist of: Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, and Cultural Life Studies. Children are able to learn at their own pace which allows them to unfold to their greatest potential. Cultural awareness, love of work through process of discovery, not just the end result, and respect for all life are just some of the characteristics carefully woven into the daily lessons.

In 2004 the MSH Montessori Program was awarded the NCEA (National Catholic Educational Association) ā€œSPICEā€ award and recognized as a Top Model Program.

Since its existence the Montessori Program has proven to be a successful and vital component of Mount Sacred Heart School, which also offers the traditional classroom environment for grades Prekindergarten through eighth grade.

Peter Zamora adds, ā€œMontessori at MSH has been a part of our family since the beginning, when I attended the program years ago. Itā€™s pretty special to witness your own child receive the same benefits and blessings from it like I did.ā€
