NFP STANDARDS ARCHDIOCESE OF SAN ANTONIO

Natural Family Planning teachers for the Archdiocese of San Antonio will integrate NFP into their own lives and provide quality services to couples/clients. The following are the standards for teachers of the Archdiocesan training program:

  1. Strive to maintain a life consistent with basic Christian values and Catholic moral teaching.
  2. Accept and integrate the principles of "Humanae Vitae" and other related Church teachings.
  3. Use or have used and philosophically accept Natural Family Planning.
  4. Satisfactorily meet the training requirements of the Archdiocesan NFP program and work with its staff and policies.
  5. Be capable of teaching the Ovulation Method or Sympto-Thermal Method as it pertains to all phases of the reproductive life.
  6. Maintain proficiency in teaching one method of NFP that is approved by Archdiocesan standards, as well as maintains current knowledge of all NFP Methods.
  7. Maintain knowledge of human sexuality in its physical, psychosocial, and spiritual aspects.
  8. Provide instruction and follow-up and maintain confidential client records in accordance with the diocesan NFP program standards.
  9. Use the Archdiocesan approved teaching format, curriculum, and materials.
  10. Use effective teaching and communication techniques.
  11. Maintain confidentiality in all dealings with clients.
  12. Demonstrate respect for couples/clients as they grow in appreciation of mature human sexuality.
  13. Contraception, sterilization, abortion, or other methods that separate the unitive and procreative nature of intercourse are not part of NFP and cannot be recommended to couples/clients.
  14. Attend all meetings and NFP functions sponsored by the Archdiocesan office when available.
  15. Participate in continuing education through, meetings, seminars, and/or reading materials pertinent to NFP.

NFP TEACHER TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

To satisfactorily meet the training requirements of the diocesan NFP program:

a. Fill out and return the Autobiographical Data Form and Assessment of Attitude.
b. Attend ALL Teacher Training Sessions.
c. Read required materials (to be given prior to class) before the first supervised class is conducted.
d. Take the final exam and return it within 30 days of last training session.
e. Compose and submit a teaching outline of class instruction before first class and follow ups are conducted.

After having met requirements a-e:

f. Conduct one class and its follow-ups under the supervision of an experienced teacher.
g. Be evaluated by the Supervising Teacher for the first class and follow-ups.
h. Submit class and follow up records for first ten clients. (Records include the Client Management Form and Chart Copies of three cycles which document follow-up instruction and advice given.)
i. The trainee will submit a personal chart for the last 6 cycles of charting.

When all requirements of a-i have been met, the trainee will receive certification as a teacher of Natural Family Planning for the Archdiocese of San Antonio.
